The first of the modern one ounce Silver Libertad coin was issued in 1982 by the Banco de Mexico, but a re-design of the reverse occurred in 1996. The Libertad bullion coin has a purity of .999 fine silver and weighs in at 31.6 grams or one full troy ounce, the silver 1oz libertad was first minted in the 1982 by the Mexican Mint which was established in 1535. The coin generally features the coat of arms of Mexico which is of an eagle with a snake in its mouth on the observe of the coin, and the image of the Independence Angelin front of a landscape of two volcanoes on the reverse of the coin. Libertads are minted in uncirculated and proof versions, there are also produced in different sizes and in sets.
